The tour starts in Beijing and covers the main sites such as Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven. A visit will also be made to the Great Wall before taking the train north to Harbin where you will see the skillful and visually amazing ice sculptures at the month long Ice Lantern Festival. The sculptures are particularly amazing at night as many are lit up from the inside. After time at the festival you will head into the nearby 'snowlands' where you can stay in a farmer's guest house and take a trek through some wintery landscapes.

Day 1 Beijing
Upon arrival at Beijing Airport you will be welcomed to China by your private English speaking guide, and then transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day you are free to recover from the long flight.
Accommodation: Stay 4 nights at the Bamboo Garden Hotel (Standard Room).


Day 2 Beijing
After breakfast you will be picked up from the hotel and taken for a tour of Tiananmen Square where you will visit the mausoleum of Chairman Mao and see the Monument to Heroes. From the square you will enter the Forbidden City which is the largest and most complete group of ancient buildings in China. Built in the 15th Century, the Imperial Palace was a forbidden area for 500 years before the revolution of 1911. It was home to two royal dynasties, the Ming and Qing emperors and it is from this palace that the emperors governed China, stepping out of its confines extremely rarely. After touring the Forbidden City you will climb up Coal Hill in nearby Jingshan Park from where you can get a great view over the Forbidden City. Lunch will be taken in a local restaurant.
After lunch you will visit the Drum Tower and then drive north to see a number of venues, used during the 2008 Olympics, which have become since become iconic, and landmarks of the city, including the ¡®Bird's Nest' Stadium and the ¡®Water Cube'.


Day 3 Beijing - Great Wall - Beijing
Stretching from the Gobi desert to the Yellow Sea, this is the largest man made structure on earth and is an amazing feat of engineering, labour and sacrifice. The original wall was begun 2000 years ago when China was unified under Emperor Qin Shi Huang to keep out marauding nomads. The construction used hundreds of thousands of political prisoners and an estimated 180 million cubic metres of packed earth. 2 hours drive from Beijing, Jinshanling pass is further out of the city than some of the more developed and more crowded parts of the Wall. Visitors see the collection of watchtowers and ramparts at Jinshanling rest on the mountain ridges, offering views of the Great Wall as it snakes across the skyline far into the distance. Lunch will be taken in a local restaurant. In the afternoon return to Beijing and on the way back to your hotel stop off at 798 Art Zone to see how art is developing in modern China.


Day 4 Beijing
Morning guided tour of the Temple of Heaven & Lama Temple.Located in the centre of Tiantan Gongyuan Park, the spectacular Ming temple has become regarded, and is widely used, as the symbol of Beijing. Dating from 1420, its wooden pillars support a curved ceiling without cement or nails to a height of 38 metres. The temple's intricate carving and bright colours illustrate the opulent Ming style. Also in the Temple complex is the Echo Wall - a circular structure composed of polished bricks on the inside. The temple and its surrounding altars, gates and park are a meeting place for the people of Beijing and it is possible to see the locals enjoying a game of chess or practicing the ancient art of Tai-Chi. This visit lasts approximately 2 hours. Afterwards visit the impressive Lama Temple which is one of the city's most important temples. Lunch will be taken in a local restaurant.
The rest of the day is free to explore independently.


Day 5 Beijing - Harbin
After an early breakfast you will be picked up from the hotel and transferred to the railway station for your train journey to Harbin.
Train Beijing to Harbin: D25 Beijing - Harbin 07.07 - 15.19
On arrival in Harbin you will be met at the train station and transferred to your hotel to check in.
Evening guided tour of the Ice Festival.As the light starts to fade you will make an evening tour of some of the most impressive lanterns that the Ice Festival has to offer in Harbin Ice & Snow World. This festival has been taking place since 1999 and the ice carvings here are said to be some of the world's finest examples of ice art.

Day 6 Harbin
After breakfast you will be taken for a tour of Sun Island Park's snow carving exhibition where you will see some fantastic examples of ice and snow carving. Afterwards you will visit Siberian Tiger Park which is home to more than 500 beautiful but endangered pure-bred Siberian tigers. This morning you will also visit the famous Stalin Park where you may well see brave swimmers in the icy cold river. Lunch will be taken in a local restaurant. Afterwards you will set out on a tour of Harbin which will take you to one of the city's most celebrated buildings - the church of Saint Sophia. This is the largest Eastern Orthodox Church in the Far East and was built by the Russians who finished the work in 1932. Afterwards you will visit Central Avenue which is home to some of Harbin's most famous European buildings and features examples of architecture from the renaissance to the Baroque.


Day 7 Harbin - The 'Snowlands'

After an early breakfast you will be picked up from the hotel by your guide and driver and you will set off on the journey to the ¡®Snowlands' of Heilongjiang province. The drive will take around 5 hours and you will pass through some wonderful winter scenery as you move out of the city and into the countryside. On arrival at the village which will be your home for the next 2 nights you will check into a guesthouse.
After checking in enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and then take a short walk through the village. Dress up like a local with sheep skin vest and a big winter hat and take a horse drawn sledge, the traditional winter transportation, to see the natural snow sculptures in the surrounding landscape. The amazing scenery here has helped photographers win many national photo awards. Later stop off at the famous Cinematography Centre at Jiapi Valley. Afterwards make a good luck wish at the nearby ¡®Holy Tree' before heading back to the guesthouse where you will have dinner. After dinner (weather conditions permitting) you can have a leisurely walk through the peaceful winter scene of China's Northeast.

Day 8 Trekking in the 'Snowlands'
After breakfast set off with your guide for a day's trekking in the Snowlands. Your trek will take your through the deep snow as you rise from 400m above sea level to 1200m eventually arriving at Shuangfeng which is 800m above sea level. The total walking time will be between 4 to 6 hours and included plenty of time to stop and enjoy the stunning landscapes and also to have a picnic lunch. The mountain range you will walk through it part of the Changbai Mountain Range which separated China from North Korea. At the end of the trek you will return to your guesthouse where a hearty dinner will await you.


Day 9 The 'Snowlands' - Harbin
After breakfast you will visit Shuangfeng Forest Farm where you can get a glimpse into the life of woodworkers in the region. There will also be good opportunities to take a few more pictures of the snowy landscapes. Lunch will be taken in a local restaurant.
After lunch you will set off on the journey back to Harbin which will take around 5 hours. On arrival check into your hotel.

Day 10 Harbin Departure.
This day you will be transferred to Harbin's airport for departure flight.
